The French West Indies aka French Antilles (Antilles françaises) are four territories under French sovereignty in the Caribbean. FWI consists of the two overseas departments of Guadeloupe and Martinique, plus the two overseas collectivities of Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin.
Guadeloupe is an overseas region of France and shouldn’t be confused with Guadalupe. Guadeloupe an integral part of the Republic since 2007. The Guadeloupe department includes the islands of Basse-Terre (Prefecture), Grande-Terre, Terre-de-Haut, Terre-de-Bas, Marie-Galante and La Désirade. Total area is 628.6 sq miles (1,628 km2) and population as of 2008 was 405,500 making a density of 645.1/sq mi (249.1/km2). Website cr-guadeloupe.fr
